Film and Lecture Series

We are pleased to announce the inaugural Aquarium of the Bay Film and Lecture Series, featuring a year-round calendar of topic-specific Film Festivals and Lecture Series designed to engage the public, raise awareness and celebrate the beauty of our Bay, our ocean, our planet and key issues affecting each of these fragile ecosystems.

Film Festivals
Let's go to the movies! Through the accomplished lens of filmmakers from around the world, both novice and professional, experience the exciting world of sea-faring adventure and ocean sports on the big screen. See exciting footage of sailing, kite surfing, paddling, and surfing films as well as unique films exploring our ongoing fascination with marine life such as sharks, whales and sea lions. Showcasing films of all genres including shorts, animations, documentaries, 3-D and full-length feature films, the Film Festival series will become a destination hot spot.

Lecture Series
Our Lecture Series will feature distinguished innovators in their fields, discussing the latest issues of enduring value from around the world, inspiring a passion in our audiences to reflect upon the communities in which we live, while sparking our curiosity and thirst for knowledge. Special guests will discuss both Bay Area and global topics ranging from the health of the San Francisco Bay, factors affecting climate change, and other topics about the Bay and our natural environment. Structure to be a starting point for encouraging an ongoing dialogue, each Lecture Series event will be videotaped and hosted on our website creating a free clearinghouse available to everyone.

All Film Festivals and Lecture Series will take place at Aquarium of the Bay’s newly renovated Bay Theater at Pier 39. The Bay Theater offers a large screen for movies, a stage for lectures, seating for up to 270 people and concessions.
